Being a IT industry Manager affording a CAR wasn't a big deal and I was quickly contributing to the Bangalore Traffic congestion and sound pollution. Being a truthful citizen I blamed the System and inefficient Bangalore Transport Systems. I used to travel around 34kms daily to work & back and Guzzle up 2.5 ltr of Diesel, most importantly spend 2 to 3 hours of my Day in the Traffic behind the wheel.
Few politicians made jolly trips to Singapore and realized Bangalore needed a Metro and this was a avenue to gobble up few Millions Rupee at Minimum. Several discussions and washing of Dirty Linen by Politicians in Public led to formation of a Metro Company 'BMRCL' to setup a Metro system aimed at improving the efficiency of Bangalore Transport. Years later the Phase 1 of Metro gets ready and operates from Byappanahalli to MG Road.
Fed up with the Road Chaos and the cries of my Knee & Ankle I chose to experiment with the Public Transport. Its been close to 90 days and I find this is heaven. The Public Transport system is Excellent and helps bring down the stress. It is a matter of just putting your EGO in a box and start using the Public Transport. On regular use I find it is a matter of getting used and the people not following the rule. It is indeed a good option to use the Public Transport and enjoy the benefits a) Reduce Traffic Congestion b) Reduce personal stress level c) Reduce Emission in the environment. and d) make up for the increasing inflation.
There is scope for improvement in terms of the Buses needing to be stream lined so that we do not have multiple instances of same route number buses plying in sets of four.
Calling all Professionals and Bangaloreans to use Public Transport more often..

It’s a matter of Choice; Chaos due to lack of Discipline or Order due to Discipline
Being a Bangalorean I always wonder why the chaos on the road or for that matter in any government offices or Public places. Below are two scenes’ which depict Choas due to lack of Discipline and Order due to forced Discipline.
Chaos due to lack of Discipline: On a Sunday morning I was going with my family to my cousin’s house in Banashankari (About 20kms from my home). We had crossed the signal near Lido and heading towards the Richmond circle. I stopped near the football stadium seeing the signal turning RED. Being a Sunday the road was sparse with traffic and for a change it was good to drive in Bangalore. My eyes were on the rearview & side view mirrors cautiously looking for vehicles coming from behind & the sides. I just noticed a government official car speeding from my left showing scant respect to the RED signal. The other road had a green signal but luckily there weren’t any vehicles from that side. Few other car’s who had stopped at the RED signal followed suit. Suddenly the vehicles poured in from other road which had the right of way, there was absolutely chaos. By this time my signal had turned green but I couldn’t proceed because of the Chaos.
Order due to Discipline: The Valampuri Ganesha temple near my residence organizes different type of Yagna every year starting from the Ganesha Chaturthi day. As a practice this year also the Yagna was arranged by the temple administration. Navagraha Yagna was arranged on Saturday 22nd by the temple administration following which Lunch would be served to devotees who have participated in the Yagna. The Yagna started at 10.00am and went on till 12.30pm; the temple authority had done a commendable job in organizing the Yagna. The devotees were disciplined till this point.
To mark the completion of the Yagna the devotees where to offer their prayers in what is called the “Poornahuti”. The temple administration made an announcement to the effect that once their name is called they should come forward offer their prayers (“Poornahuti”) and then proceed to Lunch. Chaos erupted immediately with the devotees thronging the Yagna area to offer the Prayers; repeated plea did not suffice. Finally the “Poornahuti” offering by the devotees and the entry to Lunch arena was stopped for 20minutes. All the devotees where forced to go back to their seating and discipline was forced. The entire prayer offering got completed in 10minutes while the chaos and in discipline wasted time.
It’s time each of us introspect and follow Discipline at all times to ensure there is no wastage of time. Lack of Infrastructure could be one of the problem while lack of Discipline is the core of the problem.
